Pashmina is derived from the fine undercoat of the Changthangi goat, a type of domesticated goat that has its home in the high Himalaya mountains of North-Indian Ladakh and Chinese Tibet. The Changthangi goats are herded by a nomadic group, the Changpas, and live at an average hight of 4,500 m above sea level. The cold climate they are adapted to is what makes their wool so extremely warm. At the same time it is very soft, light, and wrinkle free. The shortness of the goat hair makes Pashmina an extremely delicate fabric that can only be handwoven and hand-embroidered, since machine production would destroy the fabric. All of our pashmina stoles are hand made in Kashmir.
